David 'Gary' Carson, 74, of Atchison, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Lancaster Cemetery with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00 PM, Monday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Gary was born January 10, 1938 in Atchison, KS, the son of Clifford J. and Mary Louise (Evans) Carson. He attended the Atchison public schools and graduated from Atchison High School in 1956. Gary served his country in the United States Navy from 1957-1961. He was a barber in the late 1960's and then began working for Johnson Furnace Company in Kansas City, MO, where he eventually became owner/operator. Throughout the years, Gary also built a number of residential homes in the Kansas City area before retiring in 2000. Gary was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #446, Kansas City, MO. He loved tinkering in his garage, traveling and especially being around animals. Gary was a fun, loving person, who enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
Gary and his wife were married on October 26, 1963 in Atchison at the First Christian Church. He was survived by his wife, brother-in-law and his wife, a special cousin and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Thomas Carson; and sisters, Phyllis Liebsch and Virginia Carson.
