Daniel, a native of Nova Scotia was the husband of Ann (MacDonald) and father of John Henry, Jessie, Irene and Augusta. He was a fisherman aboard the Gloucester schooner Winona.

A front page article in the Boston Daily News on June 29 1891 describes the circumstances of the disappearance of Daniel and his crew mate Francis Orne. They were fishing between the Highlands and Mizzen Banks when it is believed their dory capsized due to rough weather. He was 40 years old.

Daniel's name appears on the plaque at the Gloucester Fishermen's Memorial as a lasting memory of the fishermen lost at sea.
