Ruth B. Solberg, 74 of rural Ferryville, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove where she had lived since May of 2005.
She was born on her family farm near Richmond, Ill., May 3, 1932, the daughter of Einar and Esther (Anderson) Behrents. Ruth graduated from Richmond-Burton High School in 1950. She started her college education at Carthage College; then graduated from UW Stout in 1950. She married Ernest L. Solberg on June 8, 1957 in Abbotsford. They farmed in Crawford County; and during this time Ruth taught at Seneca Schools until she became the Crawford County Extension Agent; following this time, she taught at North Crawford High School for 25 years; and was past president of the Teachers Education Association. She retired from teaching in 1990.
Ruth was very active in church life at Utica Lutheran Church; teaching Sunday School, and as a past president of W.E.L.C.A. Her hobbies when she had the time were sewing, quilting and family history.
Surviving is one son of Chevy Chase, Md.; and one daughter of Kirkland, Wash.; and by two grandsons; two sisters; other relatives, friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest on Oct. 18, 2006 and her daughter, Carolyn on August 22, 2006.
Funeral services were Monday at Utica Lutheran Church, Pastor Gary Wees officiating with burial in the church cemetery. The Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills assisted the family. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to Utica Lutheran Church.
