Funeral service for “Mama Dot”, as she was affectionately known to most everyone who knew her, will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park North-Riverside, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501. Interment will follow at Gillsville Cemetery, Gillsville, GA. Reverend Hoyt Winkler and Reverend Darin Cain will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 2:00-4:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
A dedicated member of Riverbend Baptist Church and choir for almost 29 years, she had also served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and served in the nursery. Mama Dot had worked for many years at Potter & Brumfield Company, Milners on the Square in Gainesville and Lowe’s in Gainesville, retiring in her mid-seventies.
Mama Dot loved the days of babysitting and just spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her special lunches with a group of friends celebrating birthdays and her many travels she was able to go on in better days. Mama Dot loved to cook for her family and friends, especially those who were sick and home bound.
Mama Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Ford Abernathy; her parents, Howard J. & Azzilee Booth Wilson; son, Bradley Abernathy; grandson, Matt Winkler; brother and sister-in-law, Osborn and Mary Wilson.
Mama Dot is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Patsy and Jay Davis of Sautee, GA and Sandra and Donald Cain of Gainesville; her grandchildren: Kristy Winkler of Atlanta; Stacey Abernathy (David) Roberts of Cartersville; R. Brad (Jill) Abernathy of Gainesville; Jenny Canada of Gainesville; Rhett (Amy) Tyner of Gainesville and Nick (Beth) Tyner of Gainesville; her great-grandchildren: Sadie & Kate Abernathy; Kayla & Carson Canada; Callie and Cullen Tyner; Bree and Trey Tyner all of Gainesville. Mama Dot is also survived by a wonderful extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved very much. She is also survived by her special nieces and nephew, Betty Carol (Curtis) Hubbard, Sue Waldrep and Gary (Vanessa) Wilson as well as great nieces, great nephews and 1 great-great nephew.
