OBITUARY

Susannah, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Edwards, was born in Chester county, Pa., January 14, 1832, and died at her home near New Lexington, O., September 5, 1899, aged 67 years, 7 months and 15 days.

She came with her parents to Highland county in 1847. June 1st, 1854, she was married to David McCoy and was for 45 years a faithful wife. To them were born five children, one son and one daughter died in childhood, the other three, Robert, Charles and Everet, with the husband, remain to cherish her memory. About 25 years ago she united with the Baptist Church at New Vienna and remained a consistent member of the same.

For the last fifteen years she has been greatly afflicted. Her sufferings, baffling the best medical skill, have been intense. Day and night she has been attended by her faithful husband, children and friends who have done all that human sympathy, love and skill could do to restore her. She was a woman of great industry and energy, and this fact rendered her lot more difficult to bear.

She could not understand why she would be deprived of the ability to minister to the needs of her family. She longed to be freed from her affliction and be at rest. She could have adopted the language, "O Death! the poor man's dearest friend, the kindest and the best, welcome the hour my weary limbs are laid by thee at rest."

NOTE: On the Internet, Susannah is variously said to have been born in Lancaster Co, Chester Co, or Philadelphia Co. Chester Co is used at the top of this memorial because that's what the obituary says. -- Jay
