Zenas Black, whose father was one of the first settlers in Putney, was a native of this town, but removed about 1848 to Barnard, where he died. He was twice married and had seven children, only two of whom are living, one son, Charles, in Barnard, and another, Horace, in Putney, on road 39. Hibbard C. Black, son of Horace, resides with his father, who has four other children. (source: Gazetteer and Business Directory of Windham county, VT, 1724-1884, p. 278, town of Putney). (Note: Betsey Newton was the first wife of Zenas. Zenas and Beulah Snow were married 7 Feb 1811 Augusta, Kennebec, ME. It seems possible that Beulah Wright and Beulah Snow are the same person; perhaps Beulah was first married to Mr. Snow before she married Zenas. Beulah Wright was the mother of Charles Wright Black. Betsey was the mother of Horace. Horace Black, born 07 March 1809 and died 11 May 1892, Putney, Windham, VT is buried at Old North Burying Ground at Windham Co, Putney, VT with his wife, Betsey J. Joy.)
