On Feb. 26, 2010 the angels came for Alice S. Odom of Bedford.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 66 years, Bob D. Odom and her daughters Carleen O. Vandegrift (Dr. George F. Vandegrift) of Crest Hill, IL; and Pamela Odom Jones (William Jones, Jr.) of Roanoke. Also granddaughters, Joleen McCarty (Bradley) of Joliet, IL and Rachel Herod of Palatine, IL; and grandchildren Christopher and Shauna McCarty and Maxwell and Madeline Herod. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by her parents Rocco and Grace Sappa of Lyons, NY and all of her siblings and their spouses, nephew David Sappa, great nephew Dennis Krebbeks, grandniece Paige Krebbeks and great-grandson Griffen Herod.

Alice graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, NY in 1936, and Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing, Rochester, NY. She did private duty nursing in and around New York City. Later, she returned to Lyons and worked at the Wayne County Infirmary until her marriage in 1943.

A Mass of Christian Burial was said 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Salvador Anonuevo officiating. Burial followed at the Elks Cemetery at the Elks National Home.

Memorials may be sent to Special Care at the Elks National Home where Alice received the very best of care.
