Son of Charles Dewitt Carter & Annie Morrow. Husband of Sue Jolly (ma. 05 Feb. 1955).

Herbert Rhyne Carter, 89, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born February 9, 1923 in Iredell County to the late Charles D. Carter and Annie Morrow Carter.
Mr. Carter was a graduate of Cool Spring High School in 1939 and served in US Army during World War II as an Army Paratrooper. On February 5, 1955 he married Sue Jolly Carter who survives. He was a member of Cochran Street Baptist Church and was the retired owner and operator of the Rotonda restaurant in Statesville for 25 years. He enjoyed the beach, mountains, camping, fishing and working in his garden. He also loved to fly planes and was very proud of his military service, he was a captain in the Civil Air Patrol and loved music; he played both the guitar and piano.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
Along with his wife, Sue Jolly Carter, of Statesville, he is also survived by two daughters, Robin Carter Barker (Mike), of Charlotte and Tonda Carter Trent (Smith), of Statesville; two sons Tony Rhyne Carter and Michael Todd Carter, both of Statesville; a sister Ruthie Carter Miller, of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, three grandsons, Kaylem Carter, of Raleigh, Smith (Buddy) Trent IV, of Statesville and Philip Barker, of Asheville and three granddaughters, Dana Carter Price, of Statesville, Katie Trent Harwell, of Statesville and Claire Barker, of Asheville. He is further survived by six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. J.B Parker, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail. Active pallbearers will be Kaylem Carter, Smith Trent, IV, Philip Barker, Rodney Jolly, Kevin Campbell and Shane Rhyne. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday at Nicholson Funeral Home from 1:30 until 3:00 PM.
