Vernon Gordon Rachel, age 98, of Gans, Oklahoma, died peacefully at his home, Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
He was born July 20, 1913, in Russellville to James Edward and Elizabeth Shinn Rachel.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Sallisaw, OK and was a highly respected retired truck driver for Time Lines Freight.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVee Rachel; three brothers, Edward, Ralph and Eugene Rachel; and four sisters, Mattie Rachel, Pauline Anderson, Evelyn Phillips and Laviena Babu.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Vernon Rachel of Barling; a daughter, Sandra Abbey of Gans; a sister, Norma Smith of Russellville; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012, at Ball Hill Cemetery near Russellville with Mr. Wayne Vernon Rachel officiating, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
