Joyce Johnson Farmer, 69, of Spring Hope, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, May 21, 2009. She was born Sept. 11, 1939, in Harnett County. Joyce was the daughter of the late Jonah and Alice Thornton Johnson. She was a 14-year retiree after 36 years of service with the USDA. Joyce was a loving and faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she served on the Benevolence Committee and many other committees of service. She and Milton started the Senior Saints Ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church. She also served on the Hospital Board of Directors for Nash General Hospital. Her many hobbies included working in her yard, tending to her garden and basket making. Joyce and her family will always be remembered for the Community 4th of July Pig Picking, that they have hosted for 36 years, where she served her famous sweet tea and lemonade. Above all a loving, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Milton Farmer; two daughters, Michelle Farmer Rubel of Raleigh and Cindy Farmer Kleven and husband, Wayne, of Raleigh; two sisters, Sue Richey and husband, Wayne, of Nunnelly, Tenn., and Gayle Sorrell and husband, H.L., of Coats; one brother, Stacy Johnson and wife, Betty, of Coats; two brothers-in-law, D.W. Farmer of Rocky Mount and Donald Farmer and wife, Guy Jean, of Spring Hope; one granddaughter, Olivia Noel Kleven; one grandson, Caleb Brooks Kleven; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be tonight, May 22, 2009, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home and other times at the home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Hawley and the Rev. Johnson Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery of Nashville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church Senior Saints Ministry at 551Macedonia Road, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
