"Bethel, Larkin Richardson, brother to Lenson Waller Bethel was born in Webster County, Missouri near the present town of Niangua, at the head of the Niangua River, November 18, 1847. At the age of four, he was taken by his parents and grandparents to Montgomery County, Illinois, and migrated about one year later to Fieldon, Illinois (Jersey County). His father died when he was about eight years of age. The family continued to live on the family farm near Fieldon, Jersey County, Illinois, until Larkin was about nineteen years of age, when they migrated to Texas in 1866." They moved with their uncle, James Riley Harper along with their mother.
"Larkin R. Bethel was a successful agriculturist, farming in Hunt and Fannin counties for more than half a century. He married March 13, 1873 to Miss Frances Westbrook, a native of Attala County, Mississippi, born September 16, 1853, the daughter of Barney and Elizabeth F. (Christian) Westbrook. The family first lived on the old Tom Storey farm, two miles northwest of Wolfe City. Larkin and his two brothers, Lenson and Cloud, hewed and hauled logs and built the home, where several of the children were born. At a later date, they moved to the old Rhodes farm that had been purchased by Sarah Ann Bethel, their mother. After a few years at this place, and after the death of Barney Westbrook, Larkin purchased from the heirs one half of the old farm homestead. They continued to live in this area until about 1918, when the Texas property was sold and they moved to Bennington, Oklahoma and purchased a 500 acre farm, living there until about 1923, returning to Wolfe City. Larkin expressed a desire to live to see his 90th birthday. He passed away May 24, 1938 at the home of his daughters in Wolfe City, Hunt County, Texas at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 6 days. His wife preceded him going December 12, 1931. Both are buried in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Wolfe City, Hunt County, Texas."

In the spring of 1866, their mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Bethel, sold the family farm, leaving Fieldon, Illinois on September 3, arriving in Texas on September 28, traveling with other members of the family. Included were Robert N. Terry, a brother-in-law, and other members of the Terry family."
