On December 28, 2007, we lost our angel when Marilyn Allen Roper, 69, passed away unexpectedly. She was born September 10, 1938, to Arthur and Dorothy Rendell in California where she grew up. She married Gerald Allen in 1959, and became a stepmother to his son. They went on to have four daughters and then moved to Oklahoma in 1970. Marilyn was a wonderful and loved teacher for 25 years. In 1987, Gerald's job took them to Colorado, and Marilyn went to work for Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado. After her husband's death in 2002, she retired from JA and moved back to Oklahoma City to be with her children and grandchildren. Here she was given a second chance at love when she met her beloved husband, John Roper. They were married July 7, 2007, and they made the most of every minute of their brief marriage. She was a beautiful person, both inside and out. All four of her sons-in-law say that she was the most wonderful mother-in-law anyone could ever ask for. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Gerald Allen; one brother, Kenneth Rendell; and one grandson, Christopher Cullen. She is survived by her husband, John Roper; her children: Steve Allen and wife Kay of Norfolk, NE; Pam Cullen and husband Patrick of OKC; Lori Davis and husband Joe of Wichita, KS; Janet Hampton and husband Randy of OKC; Kim Wigley and husband John of OKC; one sister, Linda Kathka of Rock Springs, WY; and several grandchildren. The saying 'Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much' was so appropriate for Marilyn. She had the kindest spirit, loved unconditionally, and brought happiness to so many. Those who knew her will miss her greatly. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Servant, Memorial Road and MacArthur in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado, 419 West Bijou, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.
