Ernest E. "Ernie" Vikla, age 85 of Faribault, died on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at St. Lucas Care Center, Faribault.

Funeral Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.

Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Friday, April 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Ernest Ervin, the son of Mathias and Josephine (Andrysck) Vikla, was born August 8, 1926 in New Prague. He graduated from New Prague High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. On April 8, 1953, he married Janelle Kratt at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault. Ernie graduated from Dunwoody Institute and worked at the Ford garages in Montgomery then Faribault. He then spent many years as a Prototype/Industrial Engineer at Owatonna Manufacturing Company. Then after a short time with Cybex in Owatonna, he returned to Mustang of Owatonna as a consultant.

Ernie was known as the Bee Man of Faribault and was a beekeeper for over 75 years. He was a member of the SE Minnesota Beekeepers Association and later in life educated and mentored many about beekeeping. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault and served on the church properties board, Elders board and Evangelism committee. Ernie also enjoyed spending time in his shop creating things.

He is survived by his wife, Janelle; three children, Gail (and Kevin) Solem, Lisa (and Brad) Schmitz and Mark (and Carol) Vikla, all of Faribault; six grandchildren, Kelly (and Mike) Robinson, Amber (and Bob) Giacomini, Tanner and Mara Schmitz, Nolan and Ethan Vikla; four great grandchildren, Micah, Mikell, Giovanni and Gabriel; three brothers, Elmer (and Margaret) Vikla, Sydney (and Betty Ann) Vikla, all of Lonsdale and Floyd (and Donna) Vikla of McGregor; brother in law, Bernie Simacek of Lonsdale; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn daughter, Linda in 1954; a sister, Lillian Simacek; cousins, Emmanuel, Helen, Ray, Robert and Lewis Vikla.
