Bessie was the daughter of John Walter Rawls, Sr. and Judia Ann Conger. She married Charles E. Nelson in June of 1932 and they had one child. They divorced in 1935. She remarried to a man named Brooks. It is not known when Bessie remarried . Her cremains (ashes) were in the possession of Judith Ann, their daughter, when she was located in Phoenix, AZ in 2009. When her daughter died the ashes were sent to Angie Knott.
