John Heller Munn was the first man from Spickard, MO to volunteer for the Civil War. He enlisted at Middlebury and became First Lieutenant of Company C, 23rd Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Infantry. Severely wounded in the Battle of Shiloh, he was carried from the field by his Nephew, O.K. Munn. He survived, but later died due to the complications of his injuries.
