KENTUCKY NEW ERA (Hopkinsville, KY), Wednesday, January 6, 1926:

Joseph F. Turner, aged 79 years, highly esteemed citizen and veteran of the War Between the States, died at six o'clock Tuesday night at the Jennie Stuart Memorial Hospital where he was under treatment for pneumonia. He had been ill less than a week, but his condition had been critical from the first.

Mr. Turner was a native of Christian county, being born in North Christian May 5, 1847. He was the son of Joseph and Ellen Wallace Turner, pioneer citizens of this region. Entering the war in his youth, he fought gallantly and brave with the Union Army and at the conclusion of the conflict returned to Christian county, operating his farm in the Bainbridge neighborhood. He retired from active pursuits in 1900 and removed to Hopkinsville, making his home on West Seventh street. He was an honorable, upright gentleman and a valuable citizen, and a host of friends regret his death.

Mr. Turner was married to Miss Elizabeth Ophelia P'Pool. His wife died a number of years ago. He is survived by one son, Elbert Turner, and the following daughters, Mrs. Lucien P'Pool and Mrs. B. M. Allen, of Christian county; Mrs. Adrian Minetree, of Hickman, Ky., Mrs. Walter Knight, of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Lucian Douglass, of Florence, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the late residence on West Seventh street, conducted by the Rev. R. B. Grider, pastor of the Methodist Church.

Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock the body will be taken to the family burying ground near Bainbridge for interment.
