Col John Ashworth
Services for Lt. Col. John A. Ashworth, 72, of 3104 Bryant, who died Friday, will be at 2 pm Monday at the Wall-Diffenderfer chapel with burial in the Mount Hope cemetery.
He was a retired Army officer and a longtime Topeka resident.
Colonel Ashworth was born at Ghent, W. Va., and served in World Wars I and II before retiring in 1945. He was a member of Topeka Scottish Rite Consistory No. 1, at Denver, Topeka Blue lodge, Capitol American Legion Post No. 1, Topeka lodge No. 17, AF & AM, and served a number of years in the Kansas national Guard 137th Infantry.
Survivors include two sons, Harvey D. Ashworth of 778 Clontarf and John A. Ashworth Jr. of Russellville, Ark,; four brothers, Dr. Robert Ashworth of Moundsville, W.Va., Lonnie Ashworth of Welch, W. Va., and David D. Ashworth and Joseph B. Ashworth, both of Beckley, W.Va.; a sister, Mrs. George McKinney (rest of paragraph missing).
