Evelyn was born on March 11th 1912, in the town of Wein, to the late William and Freida (Severin) Jahsmann. She married her beloved husband, Arthur Bartel, on October 27th 1934, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Arthur preceded her in death on November 7th 1978.
Evelyn worked at the rubber plant, cementing raincoats, during World War II. She worked at Janke Book Store for 44 years. Evelyn loved flower gardening and feather stitching wool crazy quilts for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She also loved braiding rugs out of wool. Evelyn was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a past president of Ladies' Aid and attending Bible classes on a regular basis. She was also a member of the Good Earth Garden Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Don) Gossage, of Marathon; four grandchildren, James Gossage, of Marshfield, Julie (Eric) Fromm, of Solon Springs, WI, Elizabeth (Ken) Spolarich, of Chicago, IL, and Jennifer (Brad) Derks, of Kellner, WI; eight great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Fromm, Saisha Ravey, Hallie, Emily, and Leah Spolarich, Libby and Zoe Derks; great-grandchild, Kira; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Bartel, of Wausau; and brother, Harold Jahsmann; special family friends, John, and Mary Schremp.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Charles Bartel; brother, Willard Jahsmann; and three sisters, Lucella (Delos) Paul, Ilene (Edgar) Grosskopf, and Lorena (David) Obey.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, on Stewart Avenue, Wausau. The Reverend Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau
