Nancy, most frequently known as Catharine, was the biological Daughter of Washington M. Swallow and Susan A. Tice (also known as Susanna). In at least one account, she was said to have been a "prostitute". I was told, by one woman to take this Memorial down, as I did not want to "ruin Nancy's memory". Do we "ruin" a woman's memory simply by putting up the facts of her life (I would ask)?
Per the marriage records of her children, Nancy had at least seven different children by seven different men. This is somewhat shocking, considering the time period in which Nancy lived. Taking into consideration the facts of Nancy's life, it is not so shocking. In fact, it is not surprising.
Nancy's first child, a Son, was sired by her step-father, Joseph Enochs. His name was William Walter Enochs. Nancy's Mother, Susan WAS married to Joseph Enochs at the time that he was found to have raped Nancy. I was told (although this was not confirmed) that Joseph spent several months in jail for the statutory rape of his step-daughter.
Nancy was married at least twice during her life. She was married to Christopher Rounhausen on March 31, 1877 in Washington County, Ohio. She and Christopher divorced sometime before the 1900 Census was taken and perhaps as early as the 1880 Census taking.
Nancy was married again on September 25, 1919, in Pleasants County, West Virginia, to Richard Hanlon.
