Robert was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, the second child of Thomas and Katherine Quinn. He was enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served as a Private 1st Class in the 519th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. Robert saw action in Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged 25 Dec 1945. For his service to his country, Robert received "Good Conduct", "American Campaign" and "World War II Victory" medals as well as a "European African Middle Eastern Campaign" medal with three bronze stars, marking the campaigns he was a part of: Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland.
