Gertrude Martha Olson was born on January 2, 1912, to Sigwald and Amanda Harwick at Philip, South Dakota. As a child she moved with her parents to rural Madison, Minnesota. She graduated from Madison High School in 1930. She taught school for six years in rural Lac qui Parle County, close to where she grew up.

Gert married Milford Olson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, on June 25, 1939. They had one daughter Linda. Gert assisted her husband in their bakery business in Clarkfield until they retired and sold the bakery in 1973. During retirement she helped Milford with training and racing his horses.

She enjoyed her family and grandchildren, loved flowers and gardening, and did volunteering at various places. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Assembly of God Church in Clarkfield and held various offices in the church for many years.

Gert died on Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota.

Gert is survived by her daughter Linda and her friend Rod Greseth; Grandchildren, Deon and Debbie Roder, Gary and Annette Roder, Shellie and Jeremy Abrego, and Michelle and Jason Weidenbach; great grandchildren, Ashley and Dustin Roder, Taylor and Kirsten Roder, Logan, Trenton, and Rya Abrego, and Kayla and Jenna Weidenbach.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Milford in 1989, one brother and three sisters.
