Arthur Gordon Gerber, at the age of 86 and surrounded by his loving family, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Art was born on December 1, 1925 in St. Vital, Manitoba, Canada, the eighth of eleven children born to Robert and Lina Moser Gerber. During his youth, he and his family lived in Calgary, Vancouver and then Victoria, Canada.
After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy, Art served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas/Louisiana Mission where he met a cute little redhead from Utah. He married Alice Bennett on February 27, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in California for a short time where he worked in the Los Angeles Temple as Assistant Recorder. For most of their married life, however, they lived in Kaysville, Utah where they were blessed to raise 6 daughters, one son and 2 foster daughters.
While living in Kaysville, Art worked at Hill Air Force Base where he later retired. After retiring, Art and Alice served an LDS mission in Nigeria.
Art had a wonderful sense of humor; always teasing and laughing. He was also a great example to his family. He was a hard worker, completely dedicated to his family and the Gospel. He did all he could to provide a wonderful life for his family. He taught others through his loving example of what it means to live a Christ like life and how to endure to the end through life's trials. He served faithfully in every assignment or Church calling he was given. In his later years, despite his physical restrictions and frail health, he was always the first to volunteer whenever there was an opportunity to serve the people around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice, two sisters, one brother, and his children: Artice Hodson, Wendy (Dave) Moss, Nancy (Wayne) Wasden, Cindy (Felix) Gerber-Chavez, Robert, Lisa (Ken) Hunt, Teresa (Jeff) Kraczek, Eunice (Joseph) Naranjo, and Freida (Kenny) Wesley. He has 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the missionary fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Lindquist Mortuary, 400 North Main Street, Kaysville, Utah. A visitation will be held from 12:45 to 1:45 pm prior to services at Lindquist Mortuary.
Interment will follow at the Kaysville Cemetery.
