Lawrence Baker was a Justice of the Peace in Newton County. He was the son of Nicholas Baker and Elizabeth Hicks.

Lawrence first married Catherine Baker (relationship, if any, not known) on 22 Mar 1827 in Newton Co., GA. At least three children - one boy and two girls (1840 census)- were born to them before Catherine died in about 1839 as Lawrence is the only older adult in the family in 1840. He married Sarah Glass Rodgers on 15 Jun 1840 in Newton County.
