The following information provided by Alan Mealey of Scotland....
Artinsa E Freeland 1848-1929, married a man called Balcom, the family book has him as Edwin C.

I found a site of Civil War graves paid for by the Government. In that site was Edmond C. Balcom, death 1908 burial at Otter Lake widows pension paid to Artinsa his widow.
On Seeking Michigan haldigitalcollections.com site I found Death cert #469 Edmond Balcom, died 7 nov 1908, burial at Otter Lake on 8 Nov 1908.

Age 23 years, enlisted September 28, 1861, at Hague, New York.
Mustered in as corporal, October 15, 1861, to serve three years.
Promoted sergeant, December 16, 1861.
Reduced, January 30, 1862.
Promoted corporal, February 25, 1862.
Sergeant, February 9, 1863.
Re-enlisted, January 1, 1864.
Promoted quartermaster-sergeant, January 7, 1865.
Mustered out with battery, July 14, 1865, at Fort Porter, Buffalo, N.Y.
