He was born near Bellville on February 7, 1919, the son of Claudy Otmer and Laura Bell (Faber) Hill and returned to Bellville with his wife, following his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corps. While in the service, he flew 32 missions in the European and South Pacific Theaters as a navigator and top turret gunner. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. R.T. And Rose built Ravenwood Farm in Bellville raising and training 19 World Champion Morgan horses. They especially enjoyed watching their granddaughters ride and show their horses. He was a successful realtor until he joined the United States Postal Service, from which he retired 28 years ago. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion and AMVETS in Bellville. He had a great love of the outdoors with a tremendous passion for trapping for which he was well known in the Richland County area. He shared his love of the outdoors with young people in the local school system.
The Hill family will receive friends Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral, and also on Thursday, April 26 from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service. Pastor Doug Pretorius will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery, where American Legion Post #535 will hold military honors.
