She was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Lincoln. While living in Lincoln she wrote poetry and worked as a newspaper reporter. She enjoyed painting, antiques, and history. She was a curator of the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation of Elmwood. In the 1990s she moved to Florida, and she came to Napa in 2005 to be near her son.
Her first husband, Dr. Andrew B. Schultze, was a faculty member in the School of Agriculture at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, for many years. He was also a faculty member at the University of Missouri-Columbia before moving to Nebraska. Her second husband, Crawford Nibler, was also a University of Nebraska Agriculture faculty member.
