Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Erickson Funeral Home in Traer Wesley L. Nation, 20, who died Sunday night of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nation near Traer. Cedar Rapids police reported that Nation shot and killed himself Sunday night in a Cedar Rapids rooming house. Dr. Percy Harris, Linn county medical examiner, ruled the death a suicide.
Wesley L. Nation was born in Waterloo on November 8, 1941. He attended the Traer school. Employed by the Vokoun Motor Co. in Traer, he left its employ earlier this year to join the Navy but returned after being granted an honorable discharge a short time later. He was working there at the time of his death.
The Rev. Richard A. Bohr, pastor of St. Paul's Catholic church in Traer; conducted the service. Mrs. Burdell Staker served as soloist, accompanied by Mrs. LeRoy Whannel, organist. Pallbearers were Harlan Smith, James Johannsen, Larry Baker, Tony Philp, Ronald Karr and Gary Karr. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vokoun, Mr. and Mrs. David Wilson. Interment was in Buckingham cemetery near Traer.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Larry, serving in the U. S. Marine Corps, who was expected home for the service and a sister, Mrs. Vernon Strachota.
