Mary Ann was the daughter of Abraham and Mary Ann (Smith) Wortring. She married William Thomspon in 1831 in Preston County, West Virginia. He passed away in 1853. In Sep. 1859 she took her 10 children and headed out in a covered wagon.
This Mary Ann Thompson (1844-1872) might have been a daughter of Mary Ann Wotring Thompson (1812-1872) and William Thompson (1807-1853) who got married in 1831. She could not have gotten married in 1831 because she wasn't born yet. She might not have had a husband herself and could have moved to Iowa with her mother from West Virginia, after her father died.
