DEATH OF MR. JAMES E. JESUP.

Mr.James E. Jesup died at his home in this city at 4 p. m., Nov. 13th. He had been an invalid and a great sufferer for two yeas. Mr. Jesup was a native of Fayette county, Ky., and was born Dec. 17, 1820. He was the fourth of a family of eight children born to Samuel B. and Catharine Jesup. Samuel B. Jesup was barn in Virginia and came to Kentucky when four years of age. In 1830 he settled in Fayette county where James E. Jesup was born and reared, on a farm. In 1845 he was married to Miss Lucy Long and lived In Todd county and in this city for 45 years. They had eight children, five of whom are now living. In 1879, Mr. Jesup was married to Mrs. Mary Redd and his second wife with two little daughters survive him. Mr. Jesup was for many year a leading commission merchant, being a member of the warehouse firm of Nelson & Jesup until a few year ago. He was also a Commissioner of the Western Asylum until the beginning of the present year. He was a consistent member of the Christian church and a man who lived an upright life and enjoyed the respect and esteem of his neighbor. A good man has passed away, leaving behind him tho example of a well-spent life.

The funeral service will be held at the residence today at 10:30 o'clock.

JAMES E. JESUP, a native of Fayette County, Kentucky, was born December 17, 1820. He is the fourth of a family of eight children born to Samuel B. and Catherine Jesup (nee Sidener). The Jesup family was first represented in Kentucky by the father of Samuel B., who came from Virginia about 1802. Samuel was born in Virginia in 1798 and consequently was about four years old when he came to Kentucky. He was married in Bourbon County, Ky., to Miss Catherine Sidener, and in 1830 they settled in Croghan's Grove, since called Jesup's Grove; here Samuel B. Jesup died. James E. Jesup was reared on the farm, receiving such educational advantages as the country then afforded. In 1845, in Hopkinsville, he was married to Miss Lucy Long. She was born in Christian County and died at Hopkinsville. They had eight children, five of whom are now living: Kate, wife of D. A. Tandy of Hopkinsville; Thomas S., of Iowa; Nellie, wife of W. S. Davidson, of Iowa; James G. and Mamie C. Jesup of Hopkinsville. His present wife, to whom he was married in Trigg County, May 21, 1879, was Mary Redd, widow of Stapleton Redd, and daughter of Moses Thompson of Trigg County, Ky. As the result of this union, Mr. Jesup had two daughters: Hattie and Addie Jesup. He is a member of the firm of Nelson & Jesup and deals intobacco and grain. Both he and his wife are honored members of the church.
