Mrs. Alex Ashley Is Traffic Victim Mrs. Jennie Smith Ashley, 74, of 1335 Riverside South, St. Clair, lifelong resident of the Port Huron area, was killed instantly in an automobile collision Wednesday night near Manistique, Mich.
Mrs.Ashley, widow of Alex F. Ashley, was returning home from a six-week visit at the home of her son, Russell S. Ashley, Ishpeming, when the accident occurred. The car in which she was riding, driven by her son, was met head on at the top of a hill on Highway 2 by a car approaching in the wrong lane.
Edward V. Jackson, Manistique Coroner, explained that the other car, driven by a 16- year-old Manistique boy with a temporary operator's permit, was attempting a pass on the hill. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ashley were admitted to a hospital in Manistique. Their eight-year-old son, also a passenger in the car, was unhurt.
Mrs. Ashley, born in St. Clair County April 17, 1876, lived in Port Huron most of her life. She moved to St Clair three years ago to make her home with an other son, Don R. Ashley. Educated in Port Huron schools she was a member of the First Methodist church here.
She is survived by three sons, Don R. Ashley, St. Clair; Russell S. Ashley, Ishpeming, and Wilfred A. Ashley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Kipp funeral home. Dr. William C. S. Pellowe, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, The remains will be removed from Manistique to' the Kipp funeral home Friday morning.
