Mary Virginia Silva Ackerman, age 87, died peacefully at home on Easter Sunday, April 8th after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary and her husband Arthur (deceased) were residents of Livermore for 40 years.
Mary was a 1945 graduate of Holy Names College in Oakland. She was a devoted elementary school teacher who worked for the Castro Valley and Livermore school districts. She was a member of St Michaels Catholic Church. Mary and Art traveled the world many times, making friends wherever they went. Their love of camping and adventure carried them to the far corners of the world. At home they were well known members of the Friends Of The Vineyard in the Livermore Valley. One of their greatest pleasures was making and drinking wine with all of their friends, often with good jazz music playing in the background.
Mary is survived by her three children, daughter Susan Devereux and Dennis of New London, North Carolina, sons Stephen Ackerman and Maria of Oakdale, and Kenneth Ackerman and Gwen, of Oakland, six grandchildren, seven great grand children.
