AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James Julian 'Peegie' Andrews, Sr., age 85, loving husband of the late Mary Purvis, passed away Monday, October 24, 2005 at University Hospital. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Peegie was born in Augusta and lived there all of his life, except for the time he spent overseas in England during WWII, where he flew 23 combat missions over Germany as a ball turrent gunner. He founded Builders Hardware & Specialty Company, Inc. in 1952. He was actively involved in the business until his retirement in 1999. Peegie was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the 8th Air Force Historical Society, the 305th Bombardment Group, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, founding member Green Meadows Golf Club and a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, David C. Andrews of Evans and James J. Andrews, Jr. of Duluth, Ga.; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles Andrews, John Brooks, Newt Goldman, Frank Holroyd, Troy Palmer and Brian Patterson.
