Yuma man died in accident near Avenue A,
County 14th
by Chris McDaniel, Sun Staff Writer

A Yuma man was killed after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a barrier Thursday evening.

Engler was a Yuma native and the son of Carol and Don Engler.

He had Tourette's syndrome, and at a young age became an advocate for those with the disease. The Yuma Daily Sun wrote an article that appeared in the Dec. 3, 1996, edition about his efforts.

"At the age of 8 he single-handedly raised the awareness of Tourette syndrome in Yuma County," his mother recalled.

Her son never met a stranger who didn't immediately recognize his innate kindness, she said. "Anyone who ever knew Aaron saw his big heart."

He graduated from Cibola High School and had recently enrolled at Arizona Western College, where he was working toward his associate degree.

"His goal in life was to become an EMT," his mother said. "Even though he never made it, he ‘cured' many hearts in the process."

He loved computer gaming and hanging out with his buddies, she added.

Services and a celebration of Engler's life will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Mortuary, 1415 S. 1st Ave. It will continue at The Pumphouse, 14342 S. Avenue A.
