A Big Brother since 1978, he was the longest continuously active Big Brother in the history of the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. He was a member of Columbus Peace Fellowship.
He had been treasurer and was past president of Columbus Area Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, was an avid tennis player and fan, was instrumental in organizing Columbus Tennis Association Men's League for several years and enjoyed bird watching. He also repaired small electric appliances and donated the money he earned to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Richard Underdahl-Peirce and Ruth Billington officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street. Inurnment will be at First Presbyterian Church columbarium.

Born in Chicago in 1939, Mr. Laemmer was the son of William and Eleanor Nicholson Laemmer. He married Gretchen Grigsby in 1963 in Raleigh, N.C.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jennifer Laemmer of Indianapolis; a son, Greg Laemmer of Bolingbrook, Ill.; grandchildren, Kittiya, Ascher, Janthawan and Yasuktama Laemmer; sisters, Joan Schuler of Geneva, Ill., and Ann McCann of Chadds Ford, Pa.; a brother, Alan Laemmer of Eugene, Ore.; and his mother, of St. Charles, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father.
