James was the third child born to Josiah Wright Brooks and Martha Barding. He wed Isabelle Freyburger in Shelby County, Illinois on April 10, 1867. They had:

1) Lillian Belle on 7 Feb 1869

2) William W in 1871

3) Louisa in 1876

4) Della Rose on 20 Apr 1879

They moved to Missouri Township in Nevada County, Arkansas and there had:

5) Effie H in Jan 1883

6) Elmer in Mar 1885

7) Julius A on 3 May 1891

In the 1910 census, James was living in Missouri Township about 2-3 miles from the Baptist Church and Sweet Home Cemetery, where his parents are buried. He is noted as owning a home free and clear and is visiting the nearby Freyburger family. He is noted as married that year for a second time but no wife shown. There is no further record I have for him but believe he is buried in Sweet Home Cemetery. His death date and location was provided by a FAG contributor.
