Founder of Kimberling's IGA Grocery Stores in OKC (at one time there were five locations in OKC)

The Oklahoman, Tuesday, 26 Jan 1999: C. F. "Tag" Kimberling was born Jan 27, 1919 and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Jan 24, 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr and Mrs J. F. Kimberling; and three brothers, Clifford, Carl and Buddy. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, June; one daughter, Susan Paulk of Edmond; one son, Kim and wife, Nancy, of OKC; three grandchildren, Jessica Paulk, Grant, and Julia Kimberling; one sister, Louise Huffstetter; two nephews, Steve and Joe Huffstetter; and one niece, Janna Lou Epperson; and a host of friends.

He graduated from Putnam City High School and went to Oklahoma City University with a basketball scholarship. He married Marie June Joyce in Perry, OK, in 1941 and served as a Technical Sergeant in the Armed Forces during World War II. After the war, he returned to Oklahoma City to join his parents in the retail grocery business, which he carried on for 39 years as Kimberling's Supermarkets.

Tag was involved in many civic organizations, President of the Metropolitan Board of the YMCA, Chairman of the Board of the Northside YMCA, Board of Directors of OKC Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma, Chairman of the Oklahoma Agriculture and Livestock Division of OKC Chamber of Commerce, President of the Young Men's Dinner Club, Chairman of the Board of Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, Director of OKC Better Business Bureau, member of the Planning Committee for the Institute of Small Business Management of Oklahoma City University, member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen in the Field of Retailing, member of the Merchandising Committee of National Retail Grocers of the US (NARGUS), member of the Board of Directors of NARGUS, President of Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, co-chairman of the Silver Pages Seniors Golf Tournament, member of the OKC Planning Commission, Director of Sooner Federal Savings and Loan, licensed Real Estate Broker, and founder of Kimberling Investments; longtime member of the Fortune Club, member of Our Lords Community Church, 5 year leader of Bible Study Fellowship.

"Da" as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man, who never said no to anyone. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses on the 9th floor ICU at Baptist Hospital for their caring and compassion. Donations or memorial gifts may be made to Our Lords Community Church or the charity of your choice. Committal services will be at 10 am at Rose Hill Cemetery and a memorial celebration at 11 am at Our Lords Community Church on Wednesday, Jan 27, 1999. (Smith & Kernke)
