Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, David Carl Ottesen, 67, passed away early in the morning of Monday, September 15th, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born March 14, 1936 to Emil C. And Mildred Billings Ottesen. He was the eldest of three children, including Mary Ellen and Richard. Raised in Salt Lake City, and attended East High School. Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he held many positions of responsibility, in both ward and stake.
He had a life-long love for genealogy. After his mission to Sweden, his father's birthplace, he went to work for the LDS Genealogical Library, and he eventually became accredited in Scandinavian research. He worked for the Genealogical Society for nearly 40 years. He was recently given Emeritus Status with ICAPGEN, International Commission for Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. He met his sweetheart, Fay Louise Morse at the Genealogical Society, and they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 15, 1960.
He is survived by his wife, nine children, David (Sarah), Mark (Tina), Shauna, Merry (Robert Simmons), Eric (Cheri), Chris (Tamra), Ethan (Tara), Jared (Rochelle), Cherstin (Scott Bailey), and 18 grandchildren. He was a source of great strength and leadership to his family and many others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and those whose lives he touched.
Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, 11:00 a.m. in the Nibley Park Ward, 2316 South 6th East. Friends may call Wed., 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 So. 200 East and Thurs. at the chapel, 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
