Harding Wallace E. (Twin) Chatham 1865 177 6 Birth
Harding Walter E. (Twin) Chatham 1865 177 6 Birth

I suggested that the boy's name in this memorial is "Wallace Edgar Harding" because 1.) Chatham birth records show twin boys born to Daniel and Phebe Harding, named Walter E. and Wallace E. on August 31, 1865. 2.) The next year, Chatham death record shows death of "Walle" E. Harding of Feb. 1, 1966, son of Daniel and Phebe. 3.)Chatham birth record of the same year show birth, on Oct. 25, 1866, of a son to Daniel and Phebe, name Wallace E. Harding. [I presume to replace the dead Wallace} 4.) The California death index shows that Walter Ellsworth Harding, born August 31, 1965", lived until his death in San Diego on July 14, 1947, and whose parents are listed as father: Harding and mother: Eldridge. So, I believe the "W. Edgar Harding 1965-1966" on the stone in Union Cemetery is named Wallace and not Walter. The actual Walter lived and the year after he was born Daniel and Phebe named their new son Wallace, since the original Wallace had died.
