Pound Ridge,
Died - Mrs. Jane Barhite, widow of Caleb Barhite, died at the family residence in Pound Ridge, on Friday, Dec. 28th, 1891. Mrs., Barhite (Jane Knapp) was born in the town of North Salem on April 15th, 1813, and was well known in the towns of northeastern Westchester. With great vitality and energy, though suffering from bronchial trouble during the past ten years, she was about the house daily, and dressed herself about three hours before she died. She passed away quietly, and with no sign of pain, well prepared for the change. Her funeral was largely attended on Monday at the family residence, the Revs. Laine and Folsom, of Pound Ridge, officiating. She was buried in the family plot between Kitchawan and Trinity Lakes.
She leaves two sons-Elbert, the elder, living upon the farm where she died; and Jared, who is principal of the Third Ward Grammar School of Long Island City. The latter had about a week before dedicated a volume of poems (soon to be issued) in the following words:-
"To my aged mother, devotion, energy, and, and perseverance led me to drink at.tho fountain of knowledge and truth until I saw beauty therein, this volume is affectionately dedicated."

Jane Knapp, daughter of Jacob Knapp and Mary Edwards, grand daughter of Zadock Knapp and Elizabeth Edwards. Sister to Jeremiah Knapp.
