As a young man, he lived in various places in the US and Canada, working as a plumber and fitter. He worked as a steamfitter for the Great Northern Railroad.
Later, during World War I, he was Asst. Supervisor at the Vancouver shipyards, doing plumbing and cutting on the ships.
He passed away at the age of 40 at the Glen Lake Sanitarium in Hennepin County.
