OLIVE KNUTSON NIBBE
Olive Knutson was born to Anton and Marie (Austvold) Knutson on June 24, 1917, at Ralph, SD. Neighbor ladies came to attend the infant and the mother at birth.
Olive received her education in the elementary schools of Harding County. She attended high school in St. Paul, MN. for one year and completed the last three years at Scranton High School in 1935. After graduation, she worked at the Green Lantern Cafe and later on at the Ralph Store and Post Office.
Olive and Ray Nibbe were married on Sept. 30, 1938, at Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton. Two children were born to them: Rodney on Nov. 17, 1940 and Sharon on March 16, 1942.
Olive enjoyed parenting and remained at home with her family until the children entered high school. She enjoyed 16 years of employment at the City Department Store with Evelyn and Dick Reimer as her bosses. Meeting the public, visiting, listening and sharing joys and sorrows with the people from a 50-to-75-mile radius who frequented the store were enjoyable and rewarding days.
She has served on various offices: The Bowman County Homemaker's Council, Peace Lutheran Church Women, Scranton Homemakers, Community Club and Golden Miners Senior Citizens.
Another rewarding experience was teaching kindergarten Sunday School for 22 years. These years hold many fond memories.
In 1970, they moved from the home they had occupied for 30 years to a new home they built in 1970 in the North Heights Addition of Scranton.
Quilting is one of Olive's favorite hobbies. She has made many quilts that are shipped to all over the world thru Lutheran World Relief. These many quilts bring comfort to those in need.
