ELIJAH WILLIAM COE was born September 15. 1820, in Loudoun County, VA. In 1840 he accompanied his father to Union County, IN. In 1844 he went to Sangamon County, IL, but returned to Union County in 1846, In 1854 he moved to Lauramie Township, Tippecanoe County, IN, where he purchased a farm June 19 from John Stutman in Section 13 and 14, Township 21, Range 4, on State Route 28, between Romney and Stockwell. The farm eventually contained 450 acres. In 1888 a local history reported that "Mr. Coe has met with success in his agricultural pursuits, and by industry and good management has acquired a fine property . . . ." He died February 22, 1898, in Tippecanoe County. Burial was at Concord Cemetery, Tippecanoe county, IN. (Lynne Ream)
