ROCK FALLS - Elmer Compton, 79, who retired in 1951 after 47 years in the pump sales and repair business, died at 12:30 pm Monday in Community General hospital. He was born Jan. 12, 1874, in Mendota, and was brought to Rock Falls when 4 years old. Surviving are his widow, Fannie; four daughters, Mrs. Marion Fortney, Charleston, WV; Mrs. Clarence Grant and Mrs. George Reitzel, Rock Falls; Mrs. Barbara Havener, Sterling; two sons, Glenn, Sterling, and Kenneth, Eureka, IL; a brother, Fred, Rock Falls; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 3 pm in Wheelock funeral home with the Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor of Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Falls I.O.O.F. cemetery.
