In following findagrave guidelines by using the date of birth on the stone, I have entered 1857 as Mary's birth date. According to Mary's death record, her father Isaac's last name was spelled Van Winkle.
Obituary from "Ottumwa Courier," April 23, 1940:
Injuries suffered by Mrs. Mary Ellen Arganbright, 82-year-old native of this vicinity, in a fall at her home 419 West Fourth Street, last Friday, proved fatal today at 12:20 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital.
Mrs. Arganbright sustained severe head injuries in a fall down stairs.
Mrs. Arbanbright was born on a farm north of Ottumwa February 28, 1858, the daughter of Isaac and Agnes Van Winkle. She came to live in Ottumwa in 1921. Her husband, J.W. Arganbright, died on January 27, 1937.
Survivors are daughters, Mrs. Earl Smith of Fremont, Mrs. Russell Morgan of Hayward, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Reck and Miss Agnes Arganbright of Ottumwa; son, Willis of Hedrick; grandchildren, Ann Arganbright of Hedrick, Jane Ellen Morgan of Hayward Calif., and Harold and Donald Reck of Ottuwma, and brother Thomas Van Winkle of Eddyville.
Mrs. Arganbright was a member of the First Methodist Church and of the Highland Club.
The body, now at the Community Funeral Service, 130 West Second Street, will be taken to the church Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the services.
