James E. Adams was born at Portland, Maine, in 1819. At the age of sixteen he went to Boston and learned the trade of coach trimming; worked at it twenty years, twelve of which was for himself. In 1855 he moved to Chicago and engaged in produce and commission business. In 1857 he located in Granby [Township], where he has since lived. He has held the office of justice of the peace for fifteen years and has also been town clerk. He was married in Massachusetts in 1840 to Minerva Adams, who died in Granby in 1867. He married for his second wife Sigrel Fields in 1881. He has one son, James L.
