She lived in Eldora from 1865 until her death in 1936. In 1862, she married Edward Burling. Three of their four children attended Grinnell College in Iowa. Their son, Ned, a Grinnell graduate was an attorney in the District of Columbia. The Burling Library at Grinnell was dedicated on October 16, 1959 and was named in memory of Mrs. Lucy B. Burling. A Burling room also exists in the Eldora Memorial Hospital. The room has a solid cherry fireplace with a plate inscribed with the name Lucy Burling. It has leatherette cushioned, solid cherry furniture, full bath and closet.
