John Owen Sweet 80, of Rushville, passed away Monday April 16th at Rush Memorial Hospital.

Born in Rush County on August 22, 1931, John was a son of the late Denzel and Peachie (Whitehouse) Sweet. He married Vera Sweet July 8, 1955 and she preceded him in death Oct. 7, 1996. His son John Joe Sweet preceded him in death April 7, 1995.

John served in the United States Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant 1954. He was an animal warden for the city of Rushville for several years and was well known for his flea market in downtown Rushville.

John's memory is cherished by one grandson Joseph Allen Buck; two brothers Jim (Betty) Sweet, Bill (Alita) Sweet both of Rushville; two sisters Ruth Dickey of Rushville and Mary Collins of Milroy; brother –in-law JR Redden of Rushville; special friend & caretaker for 16 years, Dana (Jim) McLaughlin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, wife, and son, he was preceded in death by two brothers Phillip and Tom Sweet and four sisters Sue Eldridge, Donna Fight, Wilma Coffey Logan, and Beverly Masters.

Military Honors and Life Celebration for John will be held 1:00 PM Saturday April 21st at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory in Rushville with Rev. Charles Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Rushville's East Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Those wishing to honor John's memory may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association 50 E. 91st St. Indianapolis, IN 46260.
