Mrs. Lillie Royals Stapleton Thrift, 90, of Waycross died late Sunday evening at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born in Irwin County to the late Marion and Aurrell Royals. Mrs. Thrift had spent the last fifty five years of her life in Waycross. She worked for King Edward Cigar Factory for thirty years before retiring in 1987. One of Mrs. Thrift's favorite things to do was cook. However she will always be remembered for how hard of a worker she was and spent whatever free time she had away from work doing whatever she could for her family and making sure they were well taken care of.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse Stapleton, her second husband, Elbert Thrift, a daughter, Arlene Stapleton, three grandsons, Ricky Ashby, Chris Ashby, Jesse James Stapleton, three brothers, Theo Royals, Josh Royals, Bennie Royals, and two sisters, Mauvrine Royals and Marie Kirkland.

She is survived by her son, Buddy Stapleton and his wife Vonda of Waycross, her daughter, Shirley Ann Massey and her husband Tim of Alma, five grandchildren, Jessica Hendrix and her husband Reuben of Waycross, Kristen Thomas of Alma, Michele Hart of Waycross, Tammy Stapleton of Waycross, Tonya Renee McKendree of Waycross, eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. During the last years of her life, Mrs. Thrift was cared for by her granddaughter, Jessica Hendrix, who went above and beyond providing exceptional care for her grandmother.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
