Last Friday word was passed around that A.J. VanSickle had passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto Volker, where he has made his home for some time past. Mr. VanSickle had been failing in health fo ra number of years, due to cancer, and on account of his advanced age death was not a great surprise to those closely associated to him. He enlisted in the Union Army November 25, 1861, was honorably discharged January 25, 1865 thus serving 3 years, 2 months. Mr. VanSickle was united in marriage to Agnes Shields and to this union were born six children, five of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Ida Volker of Zenith, Janas; Mrs. Belle Kreip of Oklahoma; Oscar VanSickle of Oklahoma; Arthur VanSickle of Abbyville, Kanas and James VanSickle of Stafford. Edward died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death, June 3, Mr. VanSickle moved to Kanas in the early days and had lived in Stafford county most of that time. After his wife's death he made his home with his children. Abraham Johnson Vansickle was born in Putman county, Indiana, August 22, 1840, and died at Zenith, Kanas, December 2, 1921 aged 81 years, 3 months and 10 days. He has left a highly respected family of sons and daughters as a heritage. He was kind neighbor and friend and his death will be greatly felt by his loved ones and many friends. He leaves five children, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren to mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at the Zenith Community church, conducted by Rev. Irvine and the church choir furnished the singing. The remains were brought to the Stafford cemetery where a short service was held and Rev. Irvine was assisted by mr. A.B. Akers, an old friend of the VanSickle family.
