Harold E. Layton, 76, of Baxter Springs, Kan., formerly of Welch, Okla., died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Freeman Health Systems, Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
He was born May 31, 1929 in Alluwe, Okla., to George Emmet and Marjorie Marie (Stice) Layton. He attended Ideal Grade School and graduated from Altamont High School in 1947.
On July 8, 1950, he married Marjorie Rexwinkle at Eureka Springs, Ark. He later married Emma Mae Kerns. She preceded him in death.
He was a farmer and rancher west of Welch for several years and lived in Vinita, Okla., before moving to Baxter Springs.
Surviving are one son, Terry Layton and wife, Connie, Welch, Okla.; two daughters, Sharon Clanton and husband, Dan, Baxter Springs; and Carolyn Ahring and husband, Steve, Girard; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Walker Cemetery, west of Welch, Okla. Pastor Brad Canham will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
